See the potential impact of your open science policy

The Open Science Indicators dashboard prototype contains data on research-sharing practices from 2018 - 2024, enabling you to quickly see how behaviors are changing over time, in a sample of open access publications. Using the available filters to isolate relevant audiences by country, funder, organization, or research field you can also begin to identify potential gaps or opportunities to change these behaviors through policy intervention.

Assess audience readiness

Meet your audience where they are by understanding their current behavior and how it compares to overall trends. You can compare the trends for your audience against other countries, funders, organizations, or research fields using the Comparison pages.

Meet researcher needs

Each of the Practice pages of the Open Science Indicators dashboard shows you not only the rate at which researchers are engaging in each practice, but also detail about how they’re sharing it. If your goal is to improve data accessibility, you might begin by looking at whether data is shared within the article, or in a repository and use that information to drive best practice.

Check policy compliance and impact

After a policy on an open science practice, such as data sharing, is implemented Open Science Indicators could help you see if behaviors for your audience have changed. For any major policy shifts during the time period covered by the dashboard (2018 - 2024) you may already be able to see the effect in the data.

A note about the data

The PLOS Open Science Indicators dashboard prototype demonstrates open science practices that are possible to monitor now using a sample of publications. It does not include all publications associated with a research organization or funder. While it may not include every facet you wish to measure, we hope to offer insight into general open science trends, and highlight the potential of developing more robust open science monitoring solutions specific to your needs. We look forward to your feedback.
