See how your organization's open science trends compare
Insight into your organization’s open research practices can help you identify where adoption of best practices is strong, where gaps or barriers exist, and where targeted support could help researchers enhance their visibility and impact. A data-driven approach based on open science monitoring insights can help you advocate for resources, collaborate with administrative partners, and build cultures of openness across campus.
You can use the Open Science Indicators dashboard prototype to quickly assess overall trends for your institution, and place these insights within the context of open science trends by field or country.
Dive deeper into research practices
Select the research practice you want to explore further from the lefthand menu on the Summary page. Use the blue filters at the top of the page to isolate your organization’s data.
You can also use the Dimension filter in the Comparisons section at the bottom of each of these pages to further break down trends by categories such as funder or researcher field.

Compare by organization
Use this page to easily see how your organization’s research practices align with or differ from similar institutions. Select up to 5 organizations from the filter at the top of the page and you’ll be able to see side-by-side trends for each research practice.
See open science trends by country or research field
Understanding how research practices are evolving in the broader scholarly landscape can help you target where your organization can make the most impact. From each of the Practice pages, you can filter by country and/or field to see how researcher behavior varies. By checking this against your own data, you can get a sense of whether your organization is advanced in these practices or in need of further growth.
A note about the data
The Open Science Indicators dashboard is built on a dataset of all articles published in PLOS journals from 2018 to 2024, as well as a smaller number of comparator articles from other publishers. We use metadata from OpenAlex to capture all available affiliation information from articles, not just corresponding authors. The limited scope of the dataset and the way it details affiliations of all types will mean this data provides different information on research outputs for your organization compared to other sources. Please consult this dashboard for trends relating to open science behaviors at your organization; if you have questions relating to your research activity with PLOS please contact us directly. By making open science practice data public and interactive through this dashboard, we aim to highlight the potential of developing more robust open science monitoring solutions specific to your needs. We look forward to your feedback.
